Li Haoyang's Innovative Approach to Bamboo Furniture Design

Li Haoyang was inspired by the beauty of traditional bamboo furniture and the emotional connection it creates, which he felt was lacking in cold, mechanized industrial products. However, he recognized that the time-consuming process of crafting bamboo furniture by hand was not compatible with the demands of modern society for quick and easy solutions.

With Bamboo Rhyme, Li Haoyang has managed to maintain the spirit of handmade craftsmanship while adapting to the trends of the times. He has used new technology and mechanical strength to mass-produce high-quality products that still carry the craftsman's heart. This innovative approach sets his design apart from others, making it unique and appealing to modern consumers who value both quality and convenience.

The Bamboo Rhyme furniture is made of metal and bamboo, a combination that requires skill and precision. The production process involves the normal production of smooth, processing materials, production accessories, and assembly. The chair measures 84mm in width and 52mm in height, with a depth of 38mm.

Li Haoyang started working on Bamboo Rhyme in 2014 in Beijing, and the project was completed in Shanxi Linfen in April 2016. It was then showcased at the Central Academy of Fine Arts graduation season show in June 2016. The project was a solo effort, with Li Haoyang being the only member of the design team.

The designer faced several challenges during the realization of Bamboo Rhyme. The most difficult was communicating his ideas accurately to the craftsmen to ensure successful cooperation. Another challenge was the difficulty of combining the different materials. Even a small mistake could prevent the perfect combination of the whole work.

In recognition of his innovative approach and the high quality of his design, Li Haoyang was awarded the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
